2003 Riverina Football League Grand Final - Griffith vrs Turvey Park

Raising the long awaited Cup

The drought is over !! The Griffith Swans after 35 years of Finals Failures have finally won its 1st Flag since 1968.
The Swans had previously won Flags in 1952 & 68 in the old South West League. This is the clubs first RFL Flag.
A crowd of 3,000 mostly from the M.I.A. witnessed 73 point drubbing of the Bulldogs.
There was keen interest in the game up to halftime. In the 3rd quarter the Swans kicked 3 quick goals to put the game beyond doubt.
Most supporters in the ground expected one of Turvey Park's amazing comebacks.
In 1987 the Bulldogs came from 8 goals down to beat Wagga by 2 points.
Turvey got the first goal from the bounce and things look ominous.
But right from the bounce the Swannies replied and broke the Dogs back and then raced away with the game.

In the Reserves we saw Mangoplah playing in its first final series and Grandfinal. Even though losing to Coolamon,
it was a great year for the Goannas' making the finals in all grades.

Leeton-Whitton captured its first flag as a combined team. This was the 3rd attempt for the crows in the last 4 years.
The last premiership taken to the M.I.A was when Whitton Tigers won 3 Farrar division 2 premierships in a row from 1985-87
(Barellan United won 1987 Farrar flag and Farrar Reserves flag in 1988)
Leeton was the last Major league side to take the cup to the M.I.A. way back in 1978.
That year they came from a long way behind to defeat Turvey Park.
